Pursuing the Heart of God – Day 22 – Bread from Heaven

Pursuing the Heart of God – Day 22

Bread from Heaven

Father, give us this day, our daily bread. Satisfy our hunger with Your Bread from Heaven, Jesus Christ. He is the bread of life. We eat our daily bread in remembrance of the Lamb of God, who came to take away the sins of the world.

A Message from God’s Heart to Yours:

Your ancestors at the manna from heaven in the wilderness, and yet they died. But I am the bread that comes down from heaven; anyone may eat this bread and never die (John 6:51). I am the true bread from heaven, the bread of God that gives life to the world (John 6:32-34).

I am the bread of life; whoever comes to Me will never be hungry (John 6:35). I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats of this bread, My body broken for you, will live forever (John 6:51).

When you believe in Me, take part in the communion meal I have prepared for you. The bread is My body broken for you. The cup is My blood shed for you. Whenever you eat of the bread and drink of the cup, in remembrance of Me, you participate in proclaiming My death on the cross until I return again (1 Corinthians 11:23-26). Taste and see that the Lord is good (Psalm 34:8). Be My witness and share My goodness with the world.

Partake of the feast, My body broken for you, and My blood shed for you, which brings you life and satisfies every hunger and thirst. When you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved (Romans 10:9-10). You have the forgiveness of sins, reconciliation with God the Father, and eternal life in heaven with Me. My Holy Spirit is My gift sent directly as a deposit into your heart; He seals you for the day of redemption (Ephesians 1:13-14).

Listen to the voice of My Spirit within you. Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches: To the one who is victorious, I will give some of the hidden manna. I will also give that person a white stone with a new name written on it, known only to the one who receives it (Revelation 2:17). You are My child; I have called you by a new name. Spend time with Me, and I will reveal to you the secrets of My heart, hidden manna specifically meant for your ears only. I am the bread of life that came down from heaven to give life to the world. Take, eat, and live.

Prayer:

Dear Jesus, my daily bread, I am forever grateful for Your sacrifice. Your body was broken for my sins; Your blood was shed for my forgiveness. You are victorious! Thank You for the promise that when I come near to You, You will come near to me (James 4:8). Come near to me now, Lord Jesus. Sit with me a while and share Your heart for me. Give me the identity you have for me alone. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

 Two-way Conversation with God:

  • Father, please allow me to hear Your voice clearly as You speak my identity in You. Who do You see when you look at me? Who am I to You? (Write down all words and thoughts He give you.)

  • Jesus, my Lord, please reveal Your new name for me. Who do you say that I am? (Record all words and ideas that come to mind.)

  • Holy Spirit, how do You seal me for the day of redemption. Please tell me what that looks like. (Jot down all thoughts He gives you.)

Review the Holy Spirit’s thoughts and impressions you’ve sensed and written above. What Scripture comes to mind as you review your notes? Use the concordance of your Bible to look up an impression from God’s Word. Record the verse or passage here. Write all insights and encouragement the Holy Spirit illumines for you as you read God’s Word right now.

Prayer:

Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—Thank You all in One for a special time together just now. Thank You for revealing my identity and my name in You. I am so blessed that You created me and care for me as deeply as You do. Thank You for loving me no matter what. Thank you for dying for me and living again for me. Thank You for Your grace, mercy, peace and love. I am forever grateful for these gifts, along with Your Spirit in my heart. Help me to listen daily to Your voice within me and experience all that You have in mind for me. In the precious name of Jesus Christ, my Lord, I pray. Amen.

Supporting Scripture:

Psalm 34:8, Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in Him.

Matthew 26:26-28, While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when He had given thanks, He broke it and gave it to His disciples, saying, “Take and eat; this is My body.” Then He took a cup, and when He had given thanks, He gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. This is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.”

Luke 4:4, Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone.’”

Luke 11:2-3, He said to them, “When you pray, say: ‘Father, hallowed be Your name, Your kingdom come. Give us each day our daily bread. Forgive us our sins, for we also forgive everyone who sins against us. And lead us not into temptation.’”

John 6:32-34, Jesus said to them, “Very truly I tell you, it is not Moses who has given you the bread from heaven, but it is my Father who gives you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is the bread that comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.”

John 6:35, Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to Me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in Me will never be thirsty.”

John 6:47-51, 47“Very truly I tell you, the one who believes has eternal life. 48I am the bread of life. 49Your ancestors ate the manna in the wilderness, yet they died. 50But here is the bread that comes down from heaven, which anyone may eat and not die. 51I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats this bread will live forever. This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.

1 Corinthians 11:23-26, For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: The Lord Jesus, on the night He was betrayed, took bread, and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, “This is My body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” In the same way, after supper He took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of Me.” For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes.”

Ephesians 1:13-14, And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in Him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession to the praise of His glory.

James 4:8, Come near to God and He will come near to you.

Revelation 2:17, Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who is victorious, I will give some of the hidden manna. I will also give that person a white stone with a new name written on it, known only to the one who receives it.

Reward #6 – Savor the Wisdom

Appreciate and enjoy God’s wisdom. Cherish it more than everything. As believers in Christ Jesus, we have access to all the treasures of His wisdom and knowledge. The Spirit of God, who lives within us, knows the things of God and makes them known to us. His wisdom is more precious than rubies. Nothing compares to it. According to the two verses that follow, God’s wisdom is a priceless treasure:

My purpose is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. (Colossians 2:2-3)

I have not departed from the commands of His lips; I have treasured the words of His mouth more than my daily bread. (Job 23:12)

How do we gain complete understanding of God’s wisdom? How does the Holy Spirit make the things of God known to us? Let’s take a look at what Jesus said,

I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear. But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on His own; He will speak only what He hears, and He will tell you what is yet to come. He will bring glory to Me by taking from what is Mine and making it known to you. All that belongs to the Father is Mine. That is why I said the Spirit will take from what is Mine and make it known to you. (John 16:12-15, emphasis mine)

Through Jesus Christ, we have access to all that belongs to God. His gift of the Holy Spirit dwelling in our hearts is the most priceless treasure! Without the Spirit of God living within us, we might not be able to hear His voice or have instant, direct access to His wisdom as He relays it to us.

Jesus did not say the Spirit would speak only to a select few. Jesus said He “will guide you†and “will speak†and “will tell you†and “make it known to you†(emphasis mine). As children of God who have accepted Jesus Christ as our Savior, we all have access to His wisdom through the Spirit of God within us. If you believe in Jesus Christ, the Spirit will speak the wisdom of God to you. Are you listening?

“A voice came from the cloud, saying, ‘This is My Son, whom I have chosen; listen to Him’†(Luke 9:35). God the Father told us to listen to His Son. Jesus is in God and God is in Jesus, so however we stack it up, we just need to listen to God’s voice and savor the wisdom. Savor means “to enjoy, to delight in, to value, and to appreciate.â€[2]

Are you enjoying the wisdom God has for you? Do you delight in Him and value the knowledge He gives you? Do you appreciate the access to all that belongs to God the Father through His Son, Jesus Christ, and His gift of the Holy Spirit dwelling in you?

If you better understood the value of hearing God’s voice and receiving wisdom from Him, would you make the time to listen more often? Proverbs 2:1-6 says,

My son, if you accept my words and store up my commands within you, turning your ear to wisdom and applying your heart to understanding, and if you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding, and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God. For the Lord gives wisdom, and from His mouth come knowledge and understanding.

Through the Holy Spirit dwelling in us, we have access to God’s wisdom directly from the mouth of God Himself. Isn’t that the best news you’ve ever heard? Have you tried turning your ear to the voice of God to receive His wisdom? Have you applied your heart to understanding through the voice of His Spirit within you? Do you desire to have God’s wisdom so much you are willing to “look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure†(Proverbs 2:4)? Will you put forth the effort to garner the wisdom of God by listening to His voice before everything else?

Proverbs 2:6 says, “From His mouth come knowledge and understanding.†Why don’t we seek God by listening to His voice more often? Why don’t we go to God first to gain His wisdom for everything we say and do? He waits for us to seek Him at all times, in all circumstances. He longs to impart His wisdom for our everyday challenges. His Spirit will guide us in His wisdom, if only we ask. Many times, the Spirit of God guides you even when you don’t ask.

Are you listening to the still, small voice of God within you? Will you search for God’s wisdom as you would search for hidden treasure? Will you make it a priority to meet with God daily to listen to His insight? When you do, you will savor the wisdom of God and enjoy the fruit of His peace.
